Paul Cash’s “Campaign Guy”

4/29/2025 (above image is from Mayes Media Group, displayed for irony)

Today I received copies of both candidates’ campaign finance forms, filed with the Town of Sunnyvale. They detail the funding sources and expenditures of each candidate for mayor.

As of their latest filings (4/23 for Paul Cash and 4/2 for Saji George), Paul appears to have spent a total of $18,596.97 on his own campaign, versus $385.98 spent by Saji.

This answers the question I asked in my last post: yes, Paul is massively outspending Saji. But it appears to be Paul’s own money.

But perhaps more interesting is what Paul is spending so much money on: every single expense is to Mayes Media Group. Mayes Media Group is run by Sunnyvale resident Brian Mayes.

So is Brian Mayes the “campaign guy” Paul Cash has blamed for his misinformation campaign about cricket fields? I’ve reached out to Brian Mayes for comment. If I receive a response, I will post it here.

Hi Brian,

It seems I’ve gotten to meet you through your handiwork. As a Sunnyvale resident, would you care to comment on the text message sent by K Paul Cash’s campaign regarding a cricket field complex?

Your company is the sole expenditure listed on K Paul Cash’s campaign finance statements. Given your integral position in K Paul Cash’s political campaign, would you care to comment whether the wording for the text was your own, K Paul’s, or someone else?

How did you decide which Sunnyvale residents to target in the text message survey? Did you look at their ethnicity, age, or other demographics in that decision?

Lastly, is there anything you’d like to communicate to the Indian-American residents of Sunnyvale about what many have seen as racial undertones in your political messaging?

Looking forward to your response, and any further clarification you’d like to provide.

By comparison, here is Saji George’s expenditure statement:

Thanks to members of the Sunnyvale community for sharing information with me and raising the issue of campaign finances in the first place. If others wish to add or clarify information to this post, you can reach me at ben@sunnyvalecricket.com.
