On Monday July 7th, 2025, Sunnyvale Town Councilmember Mark Eldridge tendered his resignation from the Town Council, effective immediately. Section 3.06 (D) of the Home Rule Charter states that “a vacancy in the office of a Council Member shall be filled by special election within one hundred twenty (120) days after such vacancy occurs, in accordance with the Texas Constitution and the Texas Election Code.”

During the August 11th Town Council meeting, the Council voted unanimously to approve a special election on November 4th to fill Mark’s vacated seat for the remainder of his term, which will end in May 2026.

For those who wish to run for Town Council, the filing period will run from August 12th until September 3rd at 5PM. The filing packet will be available on the Town’s website (and linked here once I see it), or you can request a filing packet in-person from Town Secretary Rachel Ramsey’s office.
