Update: Both Manu Danny and Holly Garland have announced they are running for re-election.

The Town of Sunnyvale will hold its regular election for two Town Council seats on Saturday May 2nd, 2026. Yes…we are having our next election on a Saturday. No, I don’t think this date was chosen just to spite those of us with kids in sports. Apparently it’s up to the Dallas County Elections Administrator to run these elections, and if we were to try to go it alone on a different date we would have to shoulder a lot of costs we currently share with other cities–and it would be a lot of money. So please mark your calendars that day for some time between 7AM to 7PM to visit Town Hall and cast your ballot. Not only will you be voting for two council members, but you will also get to vote on each of the changes proposed by our Town’s Charter Review committee (including term limits and beefing up our code of ethics).

The two seats up for election are Places 3 and 4, currently held by Manu Danny and Holly Garland, respectively. You may remember seeing Holly Garland’s signs recently–she won our special election this past November to fill the seat vacated by Mark Eldridge.

If you are interested in running, the full packet of information and required forms is available on the Town of Sunnyvale website (this link). Registration starts today (January 14th), but you must submit your application to run by Friday, February 11th, 2026 at 5:00 PM to get on the ballot!

In order to qualify for a spot on Town Council, you must also:

  • Be a qualified voter in the Town and State;
  • Have resided continuously in the corporate limits of the Town for twelve (12) months immediately preceding the date of the election (May 2nd);
  • Not be in violation of any provision in the Town Charter;
  • Be twenty-one (21) years of age or older on the first day of the term to be filled at the election

If you do decide to run for Town Council, please let me know at ben@sunnyvalecricket.com! I would like to feature each of the candidates on the Sunnyvale Cricket, and I’ll send you a questionnaire so voters can understand some basics about your background and where you stand on key issues for the town. If you are an incumbent and running for re-election, then thank you for being willing to serve again, and please reach out and do my questionnaire as well!

I sincerely hope we have a clean campaign, focused on the facts and the real issues our town is wrestling with. Best of luck to all the candidates!
