Letter to the Editor on Saturday’s Charter Vote

I had the honor and privilege of serving on Sunnyvale’s Home Rule Charter Review Committee this past fall. (The Home Rule Charter is the document that determines how our town is governed. It’s kind of like Sunnyvale’s Constitution.) Nineteen proposed amendments were recommended to go to the voters. Please make sure you review the proposed Home Rule Charter Amendments (attached) and vote on them on (or before) May 2. As citizens of this fine town, it is our right and responsibility to take an active role in town governance by voting for the proposed amendments that we agree with and voting against the ones we disagree with. This is how we can make our voices heard.

Here is some background information that may  be helpful:

  • The charter is reviewed by citizens every five years.
  • The 2025-2026 Home Rule Charter Review Committee had nine members (see the list below)
  • The proposed amendments by the Home Charter Review Committee go directly to the voters for approval.
  • Term limits, if approved by the voters, would NOT be retroactive. Current office holders would still be able to serve three more terms.
  • Each proposed amendment was approved by a majority of the Home Rule Charter Committee.
  • Early voting starts on April 21.
  • If you don’t vote, you won’t have a say in which ones are approved.

Please feel free to share this information with your Sunnyvale friends, neighbors, other Homeowners Associations, Book Clubs, etc.

As of Friday afternoon, April 24, only 48 people had voted!

Feel free to call me (or any of the other committee members) if you have any questions.
My cell phone number is 214-533-3457 and my email address is gemoss3@gmail.com

Thank you!

Georgeann Moss
